VIP treatment for Declan Nerney and popstar niece
Local Country and Western singer Declan Nerney and his popstar niece Una Healy appeared together in the latest edition of VIP magazine recently. In an interview with the magazine, Una says that the Drumlish singer set the wheels in motion for her success when he and his sister Ann (Una's mum) began teaching Una the guitar from a very young age.
The Saturdays were formed in 2007 and since then, the girl band has clocked up a succession of top ten hits, sold numerous albums and even went platinum with the first album, Chasing Lights.
"My mum and uncle, Declan Nerney taught me how to play guitar, my family have been totally supportive of my decision," she said. "I have the most amazing job and sometimes I have to pinch myself."
Living in London for the last few years, Una returns home to her native Thurles on a regular basis and loves to spend time with her family and friends there.

"Although you need a certain amount of confidence rather than ego to survive in this job, I haven't changed whatsoever," she said. "My family can vouch for that. I have my head completely screwed on and I know I have a long way to go and a lot more mountains to climb. The guys in Thurles have watched my journey and I have had no experience whatsoever of hometown begrudgery. I always knew I wanted to be a singer and used to perform my own original songs at various different school events."
